Retired international airline pilot . 26,000 command hrs roughly . Mainly B747 most variants. Safely transported roughly 670,000 people from one side of the planet , to the other , and back again . No injuries or deaths . Did arrive a couple of times with 1 more than we left with ! Not that I assisted directly with the birth . I might have had some luck . Always a team effort none the less . It’s a dangerous activity by nature . And should be treated as such . There’s no substitute for experience , practise , expertise and thorough knowledge . So obvious really , it’s a long way down , and by necessity we need to go pretty fast .
